Odoo hosting, compared honestly
Four realistic ways to run Odoo in production, side by side: what each costs, who owns the server, and what happens to your data when you want to leave. Written by people who migrate these databases for a living — including the parts that go wrong.
What actually matters when you choose
Most Odoo hosting comparisons argue about features. In practice four things decide whether you regret the choice in a year:
Where the bill goes as you grow. Per-user pricing looks cheap at three users and painful at thirty, because your Odoo bill then tracks your headcount rather than the load your database actually creates. Who owns the machine. If the server is not yours, leaving means a migration project rather than a DNS change. Whether backups leave the box. A backup on the same server as the database is not a backup. Whether you can get your data out. Ask for a plain PostgreSQL dump and a filestore archive. If the answer is a proprietary export, that is lock-in whatever the marketing says.

Competitor pricing is list price as published in 2026 and changes without notice — check it yourself before deciding. Odoo.sh figures assume Odoo Enterprise at list price with one worker.
Which one is right for you
you want Odoo's own engineers on the hook for the platform, you are already paying for Enterprise, and the per-user cost is comfortable at the headcount you expect in three years. It is the least thinking, and for some teams that is worth the money.
you want the managed experience without per-user billing, you would rather own the server, or you run several Odoo sites and want them on infrastructure you control. Strongest for agencies and anyone hosting more than one database.
you want a low-cost panel on your own server and are happy to verify backups and handle migrations yourself. Cheap and capable; check that an export restores before you need it to.
you have Linux and PostgreSQL skills in-house and one or two databases to run. It is genuinely the cheapest option, and everything a panel does — TLS renewals, tested backups, upgrades, staging — becomes a job someone owns.
Head to head
The per-user question, with the arithmetic shown — and what you give up by leaving Odoo's own platform.
Two panels for self-hosted Odoo. Backups, migration and what a broken export looks like.
Questions people actually ask
Is DafeApp cheaper than Odoo.sh?
For most teams, substantially. Odoo.sh bills per user and per worker, so a ten-user Enterprise project commonly lands around $390 a month. DafeApp is priced per platform, not per user — plans start at $17 a month — and the server is yours, so you pay your own cloud provider directly at their rates.
Can I use my own server?
Yes, and it is the common case. Point DafeApp at any Ubuntu VPS over SSH — Hetzner, Contabo, DigitalOcean, AWS, or a machine in your own rack — and it provisions Docker, Traefik, PostgreSQL and your Odoo instances on it. Your data stays on infrastructure you control and can walk away with.
Do I need to know Docker or Linux?
No. Provisioning, TLS certificates, backups and upgrades are handled for you. The SSH access exists so you are never locked out of your own machine, not because you are expected to use it.
Can I run Odoo Community and Enterprise?
Both. Community works out of the box; for Enterprise you supply your own Odoo licence and DafeApp syncs the Enterprise add-ons onto the server for you.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
It is on your server and in your own object storage, and it stays there. Backups are plain PostgreSQL dumps and a filestore archive — restorable with standard tools, with or without DafeApp.
Can one server run several Odoo versions?
Yes. Instances are containers, so Odoo 17, 18 and 19 can run side by side on one machine — useful when you are migrating a customer and want the old version reachable until the new one is signed off.
Try it on a server you already have
Point DafeApp at any Ubuntu VPS and have Odoo running with TLS, backups and a custom domain. If it is not better than what you have now, you have lost an afternoon and kept your server.
