What does Odoo actually cost you?

Most of an Odoo bill is the Enterprise licence, and that costs the same whoever hosts you — so this compares the part a host actually sets. Odoo.sh charges per platform worker, per database, so it grows with your headcount and with every new client. Self-hosting is one plan plus servers the databases share. Put your own numbers in; every assumption is listed below the result.

At this size the two are close. If nobody on your team wants to think about a server, Odoo.sh is fair value here — the gap opens up as you add users.

All in vs
How this is calculated

Hosting is the comparison. Odoo.sh charges per platform worker per month, per database — every project is priced on its own. DafeApp is one plan at /month plus servers at each, however many databases you run.

Odoo Enterprise licences are not part of it. They are per user per database, bought from Odoo, and they cost exactly the same whoever hosts the database — so they are listed on their own rather than added to both sides. Nobody reselling Odoo hosting can discount them, and a comparison that folds them in mostly measures your headcount.

Workers scale with people, not disk. A worker handles concurrent requests, so we allow one per users — Odoo.sh's own guidance is about one per 30 light users, and resellers put a 25-user team at three or more.

The difference is that databases share a machine here. At this workload size about fit comfortably on one server, so databases need . Odoo.sh has no equivalent — a second project is a second bill.

Licence prices are Odoo's published Custom-plan rate on yearly billing (/user/month), which is the only plan that allows either Odoo.sh or self-hosting; Odoo's lower advertised figure is a 12-month introductory discount. Odoo.sh publishes its worker price only inside a JavaScript calculator, so is the annual-billing rate as quoted by resellers — monthly billing is higher, which would widen the gap, so this is the conservative figure. Server costs sit between Hetzner (cheaper) and DigitalOcean (dearer). This is an estimate for comparison, not a quote — and the one number it cannot capture is how much your team's time is worth.

Worked examples

If you would rather not move sliders — and so that these figures are readable without JavaScript — here is what the same arithmetic gives for five common shapes of business, with Odoo Enterprise licences included on both sides.

Hosting only. Odoo Enterprise licences are left out of this table because they are identical on both sides — $16.40 per user per database, bought from Odoo whoever runs the server — so including them would add the same number twice and shrink every percentage without changing anyone's decision. Odoo.sh charges $57.60 per platform worker per database, one worker per 20 users. DafeApp is one plan plus the servers the databases need, and several databases share a machine — which is where the two models diverge.

Frequently asked

How is the Odoo.sh figure calculated?

Odoo Enterprise is billed per user per month, and Odoo.sh adds platform workers on top. The estimate multiplies your user count by Odoo's list price and adds the workers your database size suggests. Your quoted price may differ with discounts or a partner agreement.

Does the DafeApp figure include the server?

It is shown separately, because you pay your cloud provider directly rather than paying us a markup. The estimate uses typical VPS pricing for the size your workload needs.

Do I still need Odoo Enterprise licences?

Only if you want Enterprise features. Odoo Community is free and complete for many businesses. If you do need Enterprise, you buy it from Odoo and DafeApp syncs the add-ons onto your server.
